Welcome to the unit about issues in the release of captured marine mammals. Please enjoy the activities below. If you have a question, please contact me.

You can choose to do the activities in any order you would like. I have put them in the order that I think would be easiest for you, but please experiment!

  1. You can prepare for the unit by learning some new words and idioms. You can use the flashcards and then play some games. You can print any of these pages to include in your clear file.

  2. You can check your understanding of the new words and idioms by completing this cloze test. You can print this page and add it to your clear file.

  3. Look at this link, discuss the questions with a partner, write your answers, then print the page to include in your clear file for evaluation. This short activity will begin to build your schema for the following activities.

  4. Open this link. You will find a link to a news report. Listen to the report, discuss the questions with a partner, write your answers, then print the page and add it to your clear file for use in the final evaluation. This longer activity will give you some background knowledge of the issues.

  5. Participate in the online simulation to decide Lolita's fate. (Your teacher will give you your log in details).

  6. Write a 750 word report reflecting on your participation in the online simulation. Submit this to your teacher by email. Please also complete your self- and unit- evaluation and submit them with your clear file for evaluation and assessment by your instructor.
